Southern Yemeni activist dies after two months in secret detention

Southern Yemen has witnessed rising tensions between local political factions, including the UAE-backed STC. Allegations of secret prisons and human rights violations have increasingly surfaced.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Southern Yemeni activist Anis Al-Jardami passed away on Monday in a hospital in Aden after spending two months in detention at a secret prison allegedly operated by factions of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Local sources, including human rights organizations, reported that Al-Jardami was arrested due to his vocal opposition to certain policies of the STC. His detention raised concerns among activists about political repression and human rights violations in southern Yemen.

Following a significant deterioration in his health, Al-Jardami was eventually transferred to a hospital in Aden. However, his family was denied access to visit him or receive updates on his condition, deepening concerns about the circumstances surrounding his treatment and detention.

His death has reignited discussions about the ongoing political tensions in Yemen and calls for accountability regarding secret prisons and the treatment of detainees.
